HISTORY OF NO-CONFIDENCE

  • 27 No-Confidence motion till date in Indian History.
  • Ex-PM Indira Gandhi faced 15 No-Confidence motion.
  • Lal Bahadur Shastri and N. Rao faced 3 times.
  • Moraji Desai, Atal Bihari Vajpayee  faced 2 times.
  •  Rajiv Gandhi faced once.
  • Narendra Modi facing on 20/07/2018.

NO-CONFIDENCE MOTION

  • A no-confidence motion can be moved by a Lok Sabha Member if he/she thinks that the ruling government has lost the support of the majority.
  • Only Lok-Sabha process this motion.
  • At least 50 members should be in favor to start the discussion on this.

Today in Lok Sabha

TDP
Starting with TDP MP Galla begins the discussion, targets BJP for not giving Andhra Pradesh a "Special State Status".
Galla said that AP(Andhra Pradesh) voters will show BJP exit gate as they did to Congress if they continue to give false promises.

BJD
Walks out of the Lok Sabha as Congress and BJP both parties doesn't do anything for the welfare of Odisha that's why they don't see any necessity in the discussion.

Shiv-Sena
Didn't attend the discussion.

AIADMK
Won't back the no-confidence motion against Govt.

BJP
Targets Congress on scams they done in past, Familism, Corruption.
Counts the merits of work done by Govt.

Congress
Rahul Gandhi speaks and targets Modi and Sitharaman on Rafael Deal and Jumla strikes of PM.
He targets Modi for his foreign trips and relation with business persons, Demonetisation and Unemployment.
At last, he hugs PM.

TMC
Targets trips of PM Modi and loan scams.

SP
Unemployment is the main problem and central Govt can't tackle it and fails to fulfill their vows.

STATS

With BJD and Shiv Sena absent from the discussion, PM N. Modi needs 249 votes to prove his majority or confidence in ministers.
Total Seats: 533(Speaker excluded)
Passing Mark: 249
NDA Alliance- 294(Shiv-Sena & BJD excluded)
AIADMK supporting BJP:
NDA+AIADMK: 331

My Views:
  • This will not have any effect on the current Govt position.
  • BJP alone has 273 MP which is 24 more than the passing threshold.
  • TDP backed by Congress filed No-trust motion.
  • This is just a rehearsal for the 2019 election.
  • Forming a united opposition is the main objective of this session.
  • Just a desperate move to change people mind.
RESULT:
Modi Govt. wins trust votes, 325 votes in the favor of Modi and 126 in against.
